You can get the same sort of effect if you write a script or HTA that you use to start the logoff/shutdown/reboot process. Instead of using the start menu's Logoff or Shutdown options, run your script instead. Do whatever housekeeping you want, then have the script finish by initiating logoff/shutdown/reboot.
